Hi Karim! Tell us a bit about yourself...
Hi there! Of course! I was born and raised in a small town next to Amsterdam, the beautiful town of Monnickendam. I don’t think many people know it. However, I am currently living in Volendam, which is of course a well-known place in the Netherlands where the typical Dutch culture comes to life. I am the proud father of a 4-year-old son who makes sure I never have a dull moment when I am off! I come from a Dutch-Tunisian family, and through that my passion for hospitality was born. My father worked in the hospitality industry for years before moving to the Netherlands. I guess it’s all in the genes…
That sounds great! So how did you decide to join the team of OCCO?
After working at a larger hotel here in Amsterdam for some years, I decided to join the team of The Dylan a while ago. I have always been very impressed with the hotel and specifically the level of service. After more than two years of working at OCCO, I can definitely say that this was the right choice for me. What I like most about working at The Dylan are the opportunities we get and the freedom we have. It enables us to make Bar Brasserie OCCO an even better and unique destination. This freedom allows us to be creative, and to combine craftsmanship with a personal touch, which I definitely see as the driving force behind OCCO!
We couldn’t agree more! We’d love to hear more about the OCCO. What was the most outstanding request you’ve ever had for instance?
I have had many outstanding requests over the years, but we really don’t talk about our guests… But what I’ll always remember, was having the pleasure of arranging a dinner for a young lady whose last wish in her life was to experience a dinner in a 5-star hotel.
We can only imagine! And is there a secret you CAN share with us? We’ve heard some rumors of a new concept?
Well… We are working on an exclusive concept of our High Wine! Since the High Wine at OCCO is very popular, in and around Amsterdam, we thought we should bring somewhat of an extended version to live. We are going to offer an exclusive live experience with our Chef at a secret location in the hotel. During this live experience, we will take you on a wine journey around the world. We hope to welcome all the wine lovers to The Dylan to experience this unique concept! Keep an eye out for it on the website.
That sounds amazing! To close off, what would be your favourite pick #insideTheDylan?
My favorite choice #insideTheDylan would be to enjoy one of our creative cocktails. I can’t pick a favourite cocktail as there are too many great ones so I would go for our Roulette, and let our gumball machine decide. This way you always get a good choice!
