Hi Deborah, tell us a bit about yourself. Take the stage!
Hi, my name is Deborah and I am the Human Resources Manager here at The Dylan Amsterdam. I am a born and raised ”Rotterdammer” and commute each day to work in one of the most beautiful hotels of our capital. I joined the team of The Dylan in August last year.
Why did you decide to join the Dylan family?
The team! The first time I stepped through the gate of The Dylan and remember that I only was thinking: wow ! I received the most heartfelt welcome and was so impressed by how all team members are working here. They’re truly passionate about what they do. For me, this makes all the difference and it made me decide that I wanted to be part of this wonderful family.
What is the best part of your job?
I am a people’s person and the human factor of Human Resources is what I like most. The best part of my job is building relationships with each ”family member”, each colleague. Every member spends a lot of hours at work each week, and that environment is largely created by other colleagues. So I consider it my mission to create a pleasant working environment for everyone.
And what is the most challenging?
Recruitment has been a bit challenging lately. During the pandemic of COVID-19, many people opted for retraining and left the hotel industry to get more security. However, I’ve noticed that people with a real passion for the hospitality are slowly but certainly returning to the industry. We now have the chance to hire these passionate candidates again. A silver lining, I guess!
So what advice would you give to new members of The Dylan family?
Be yourself and embrace “The Dylan culture”! Working in a new place can be overwhelming. Therefore, my advice would be to stay true to yourself, observe and absorb the way your colleagues work and think, and also to enjoy your time at the hotel. It’s such a special place!
Describe The Dylan in 3 words
Family. Personal. Luxury.
When you walk out of the gate, what do you like to do in your free time?
As cliché as it sounds, I love spending time with my family and friends. Again, a people’s person right? However, hospitality runs in my veins. I very much like to discover new places for dinner, and occasionally you can find me in a nice wine bar to enjoy a good glass. Yet on a rainy day, I will be probably binge-watching some series with my husband-to-be at home.
